In 1991, a group of historians, suspecting that Taylor had been assassinated by arsenic poisoning, received clearance to have Taylor's body exhumed from its grave site at Louisville Cemetery and to have an autopsy performed. Arsenic was not detected. President Zachary Taylor was confirmed to have died of natural causes.
